Many systems place natural hair between adhesive tabs to create an attachment near the head. The configuration varies with product and wearer. A section must be appropriate: too little natural hair concentrates load, while unsuitable sectioning prevents secure contact.

Ask which system is proposed and why it fits your density, haircut and desired amount. A flat tab can still show through sparse coverage or flip near a part, perimeter or frequently moved area. Discuss sensitivity, previous adhesive reactions, recent color and products used near roots before fitting.

Ask whether the selected adhesive requires sensitivity precautions. Existing irritation should be assessed before installation. Unexplained loss or inflamed patches require qualified healthcare advice, not concealment with extra hair. Another method or postponement can be more appropriate. It is reasonable to ask why a recommended amount is safe to support and which areas should remain free of attachments rather than pursuing fullness everywhere.

Show where you part, how high you wear a ponytail and whether you tuck the sides behind your ears. Tabs need enough coverage and freedom to stay discreet without pulling.

Placement concealed in a down style can become visible when lifted, so test your everyday movement during the consultation.

Discuss short layers and whether they blend with the requested length. Match roots, midlengths and ends rather than only the brightest shade. Ask how extension texture behaves after washing. A mismatch can mean more heat and work than a salon photo suggests. Decide whether a blending cut is appropriate and what that cut will look like if you later remove the added hair.

Confirm how to arrive, including cleansing and products to avoid, rather than improvising with a strong clarifier or scalp treatment.

After placement, follow the selected product’s instructions about washing, sweating and product use while adhesive settles. There is not one waiting period for every tape system. Clarify before leaving, especially with exercise, swimming or an event planned. Ask how a loosened tab should be handled and whom to contact. Do not create your own rule from another wearer’s instructions or a different product.

Ask exactly where shampoo, conditioner, masks, leave-ins and styling products belong. Oils, rich conditioner and residue interfere with some adhesives, so placement matters as much as the product name. Cleanse gently, rinse thoroughly and avoid scrubbing tabs against one another.

Condition permitted lengths rather than coating attachments.

For Kérastase, L’Oréal Professionnel or Shu Uemura, identify individual compatible formulas instead of approving a whole range by name. Keep hot tools away from adhesive and apply approved heat protection to lengths. Never use household solvent or an unapproved remover on a sticky edge. Sleep in a loose secured arrangement that limits tangling without pulling the perimeter. Ask how to protect and cleanse the system around swimming. Repeated saturation, friction and neglected tangles change maintenance needs even when tabs seem secure. Make sure the care routine is manageable at the back of your head. If it is not, discuss a simpler placement rather than ignoring difficult areas.

Six-to-eight-week maintenance is general guidance, not a promise tabs can stay untouched for the whole interval. Growth, slippage, shedding and scalp condition can justify earlier review.

Reapplication is more than pressing loose adhesive together: hair must be released appropriately, residue addressed and natural and extension hair assessed.

Suitable pieces may receive replacement adhesive according to product instructions. Reuse is condition-based, not a guaranteed number of cycles. Ask whether color should be coordinated around removal; products applied near installed tabs complicate care and can produce uneven results. Schedule the review before installation so maintenance is part of the decision rather than a surprise added to the first fitting.

Contact the salon when tabs slide, repeatedly lift, twist, trap tangles or pull persistently. Redness, sores, burning and suspected adhesive reaction need prompt attention; significant skin symptoms warrant healthcare advice.

Do not add glue, press stray hair into exposed adhesive or peel pieces apart, even when a tab feels nearly loose.
